All riders will receive a "Ride of Honor" Patch
While The Wall may be hosted by any group wishing to honor fallen heroes, the Ride of Honor is a ceremony unique to motorcycle events. Motorcycle riders have shown the American Veteran's Traveling Tribute great support throughout the years by showing up day in, day out to escort The Wall, to stick around & help with set up, and volunteer through the duration of the event. So The Ride of Honor is something we do to show our respect to the riders while at the same time they can show their respect to our fallen heroes doing what they love, by riding. What takes place is a great experience for the riders, but is also something that is incredible to observe.
The Ride of Honor will take place Sunday July 31st in the early afternoon beginning with an optional short ride through the surrounding lakes area. Upon returning to the event, the ceremonial Ride of Honor will take place. Riders will travel infront of the tribute displays from left to right allowing the them to be able to salute with their right hand. The riders will be saluted by non-riding veteran and/or active duty military. There will be two points of salute.
The first salute will occur when a rider reaches the center of The Wall where the rider will stop at the field cross and give a salute and will receive a return the salute. At that point the next rider will begin The Ride of Honor. The second salute will occur at The Gold Dog Tag Display. Again the rider will stop and give a salute, once it is returned the rider will continue on past the remaining displays and out of the event area. After all the riders have passed, one by one, the Ride of Honor will be concluded. The Ride of Honor is included in the admission fee for the event. |
